Top 10 things to do after installation of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
1. Verification of system updates and upgrades
The first things you need to do to make sure your latest Ubuntu installation is updated with the latest packages. So once you’ve downloaded, open the updater and check for updates. You can also execute the following command from the terminal (CTRL+ALT+T).
sudo apt update & sudo apt update
2. Look what’s new.
You have the latest installation of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. So it’s time to see what’s new in the store. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS includes the latest GNOME 3.36 desktop environment, the 5.4 Linux kernel, faster ZFS support, built-in fractional scaling and much more. 3. Adjustment of appearance
Ubuntu 20.04 brings an internal dark mode. Unless you need to search for other subjects in dark mode. You can enjoy three different themed modes: light, standard and dark.
Dark mode can be easily integrated into the GNOME desktop environment and other applications.

Ubuntu settings do not allow you to customize the GNOME desktop environment, such as scaling fonts, changing fonts, and so on. To do this you need the Dwarf tool. You can install the tool immediately and enjoy smooth changes to the settings on your desktop.

If you are a laptop user, you can view the percentage of battery power at the top of GNOME. You need the GNOME Tweak tool (Tip #4). Open the GNOME Tweak tool, click on the top panel and turn on the Percent Charger.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS brings you the latest software available for the GNOME desktop environment. In addition, some basic applications such as the LibreOffice office suite, the Thunderbird e-mail client and the Mozilla Firefox web browser are pre-installed.

7. Setting up a proper file manager
The standard file manager for the GNOME desktop environment, Nautilus, is great-no doubt about it. But there are a few other alternative file managers you can try if you think Nautilus is not up to the task.
- Dolphin is KDE’s default file manager, with a few special features.
- Thunar is another lightweight file manager available for Xubuntu. It is fast, clean and very easy to use – no extra options or too much. Simple, fast and reliable file manager.
8. Adjusting the time difference
Everyone needs to make sure they create a restore point for their system and always perform a scheduled backup. This is a recommended step for everyone in case something is broken in your system, so you can return to a previous stable state. You need a time difference. Time Shift is a very useful tool, and the easy-to-use application helps you create a restore point in the Ubuntu system. This application is available in PPA. To install it, simply run the following commands into the terminal and execute it.

9. Establishing a proper image processing program
Shotwell and Image Viewer are pre-installed in Ubuntu 20.04. However, they do offer a number of basic image processing functions. If you want more, you can try Shutter or GIMP. Both offer a decent amount of image editing functions and complete your desktop.
To install GIMP, simply launch it from the terminal or install it using the Ubuntu software.

10. VLCMedia Player Installation
The video player in the GNOME desktop environment cannot play some media by default due to the limitations of the video formats and also seems a bit trite. Everyone should install a VLC media player and forget the rest. To play old DVD files, you can also install some additional packages.
