Start VLC

Once the installation is complete, you can start the VLC player by clicking the super key and searching it using the search bar.

When you open the VLC player for the first time, the following message appears. Select the Allow access to metadata over the network checkbox and click Next.

VLC set as the default media player

In Ubuntu, Rhythmbox is the standard media player used to play audio and video files. However, if you want to play a media file on your VLC media player and set it as your default media player, you can do this by following these steps

Right-click on your desktop and select Settings from the menu.

Then click on the Standard Requests tab in the left pane. In the right-hand window you will see some standard applications configured for different departments. Use the drop-down list to set the VLC player as the default application for music.

Close the Settings utility. After setting the above parameters, each audio and video file will open in the VLC Media Player by default.

Clear VLC

To remove the VLC media player from the system, open the Snap-In Store in the Ubuntu Dash menu. Then find the VLC with the search query and open it. When the following window appears, click the Delete button.
